Founder of Subtle Body Yoga & Forces of Light

Julio César Andújar is a San Diego-based yoga teacher, practitioner, and founder of Subtle Body Yoga, with a practice rooted in more than 25 years of immersive study across classical Indian philosophy, Sanatana Dharma, and Hawaiian cultural traditions.

His path began not in a studio, but in life. An early career producing music for Hollywood studios and recording sessions at Conway, the Record Plant, and the Village gave way to a profound spiritual awakening that brought him to Hawai'i. There, he lived monastically at the Korean Won Buddhist Temple in Makaha, deepening a meditation practice while contributing to the Ka'ala Cultural Learning Center, Ma'o Organic Farm, and the Ai Pohaku Program in Wai'anae — indigenous Hawaiian institutions where service and study are inseparable.

In 2004, a meeting with Ram Dass reshaped the contours of what a teaching life could look like — one where music, consciousness, and yoga were not separate vocations, but a single current. That current has never stopped moving.

Certified through Prana Yoga Center in La Jolla under Gerhard Gessner, Julio holds 200-hour and 500-hour E-RYT designations, with a teaching lineage spanning Ram Dass (Bhakti Yoga), Lorin Roche (Meditation), Robert Birnberg (Yoga Sutras, Samkhya Darśan), Jyothi and Manoj Chalam (Vedanta, Upanishads), and a dozen more dedicated teachers across Hatha, Pranayama, Ayurveda, and Buddhist Dharma.

His teaching integrates classical yogic philosophy — the Yoga Sutras, the three guṇas, the kośas — with the understanding that consciousness responds to beauty, rhythm, and immersive experience. He has brought this perspective to major transformational festivals including Bhaktifest and ShaktiFest, and continues to share it through Subtle Body Yoga and the Forces of Light platform, where spiritual teaching meets music, media, and emerging technology.

Julio is also the founder of Forces of Light, a 25-year music and media enterprise, and co-founder of How to Love: Media — a consulting and creative agency at the intersection of consciousness, culture, and commerce
